Genesis 1:1. Beginnings. All beginnings are the creations of worlds. For the universe is a composite of a multitude of worlds... if we can take the word "worlds" to mean what we mean in everyday language, and recognize that one's world involves a perspective from a certain position and point of view.
So, the beginning of this blog is the beginning of an expression of my world.
Writers are funny creatures--funny in our own way. I, personally, am a bit shy about the idea of publishing my ideas about the world. But I can't help it. I am driven to it. We have different metaphysics to explain that. Some may believe it's their DNA that pushes them to write. But I believe that the Spirit of the Universe is alive and well, and guides us to be vehicles for the expression of Spirit. None of us can ever hope to succeed in reporting the God's eye view completely. I don't even think "the prophets" have succeeded in doing that. Even Jesus had a point of view, influenced by his times and culture. And so did the Buddha. And so did Gandhi. No human being can get completely outside of his or her cultural perspective when they speak or write. But that doesn't mean that they're not shining examples of the expression of the Universal Spirit from their perspectives.
When I write, I write passionately. I don't want to write just to write. I write because I care about something. It may be a political issue that is driving me. It may be a bird outside my window. It may be an insight into Spirit that I feel driven to articulate and to share so that it might be a point of dialog or a means of helping someone.
But feeling passionately about what I'm writing about doesn't mean that I've closed my eyes or my mind. I believe in ultimate humility. Socrates said that he was alone in Athens in realizing that he knew nothing. I don't think Socrates was just saying that. I think it is part of the way of Wisdom for human beings. We are always on a Quest. We are always Questioning. We are on the way. We haven't arrived. But along the way, we must give expression to Spirit, and hope that a shared inquiry amongst human beings will lift us to worlds we would never dream of if left on our own and devoid of the spirit of inquiry.
